The Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech) is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures using various radiologic equipment, such as X-ray, CT scan, MRI, or mammography, as prescribed by a physician. The role requires maintaining patient safety, ensuring high-quality imaging results, and providing compassionate care to patients throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform Diagnostic Imaging:
- Operate radiologic equipment to capture high-quality images for diagnostic purposes.
- Position patients to obtain the best imaging results, ensuring minimal discomfort.
- Administer contrast agents as necessary, following safety protocols.
Patient Care and Safety:
- Verify patient identity, medical history, and imaging orders to ensure accurate procedures.
- Provide clear instructions to patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns.
- Ensure radiation safety protocols are followed to minimize exposure to patients, self, and staff.
Image Quality and Record Keeping:
- Review and assess images for clarity and accuracy, retaking images if necessary.
- Document patient information, procedures performed, and any relevant data in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including imaging results and other relevant details.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare team members to discuss findings and ensure accurate diagnoses.
- Communicate effectively with patients to ensure comfort and understanding before, during, and after procedures.
Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on imaging equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel for repair or replacement.
Adherence to Policies:
- Comply with all regulatory, safety, and hospital standards, including HIPAA confidentiality, infection control, and radiation safety practices.
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with technological advancements and best practices.
